the science and the study behind the oshot

Sexual health isn’t static—and for many women, it doesn’t stay the same over time. What once felt easy or intuitive can shift, sometimes subtly, sometimes in ways that feel frustrating or hard to explain. Changes in orgasm, sensation, or desire are more common than most women realize, yet they’re rarely talked about openly.

The OShot (Oh-Shot) is one of several evolving options designed to support women through these changes. It’s not positioned as a quick fix or a one-size solution, but rather as a tool that works with your body’s own biology to potentially improve function where there has been a noticeable shift.

Backed by over a decade of observational research by

Dr. Charles Runnels, this approach has been studied in women experiencing sexual distress, with many reporting meaningful improvements over time. For the first time, he released the results of his OShot study.

What did the Oshot Study Say?

In a longitudinal study following approximately 2,000 women over ten years, a significant number experienced a measurable reduction in sexual distress scores, with results often peaking around six months and sustaining for up to a year. While more rigorous studies are still needed, this data offers an important starting point—suggesting that for some women, there is real potential for improvement.

Who Gets The Oh-Shot?

For some, it’s about addressing a concern—difficulty reaching orgasm, a decrease in sensation, or changes that come with postpartum recovery, perimenopause, menopause, or medication use. For others, it’s less about a “problem” and more about curiosity—wanting to feel more, explore more, or reconnect with a part of their body that may have been overlooked.

Both dysfunction and optimization are important parts of the conversation when it comes to sexual health. Dysfunction refers to aspects of sexual response that feel changed, less responsive, or in need of support—while optimization looks beyond that, focusing on what more is possible. Both perspectives are valid, and both deserve attention.

To understand where the Oh-Shot fits in, it helps to understand anatomy—because female pleasure is often oversimplified.

The clitoris, for example, is far more than what’s visible externally. It’s a complex, internal structure—often described as wishbone-shaped—that extends along and around the vaginal canal. With over 13,000 nerve endings, it plays a central role in sexual response. In fact, the majority of women rely on clitoral stimulation as their primary pathway to orgasm.

There’s also the area commonly referred to as the “G-zone,” located along the anterior vaginal wall. Rather than a single defined point, it’s better understood as a region of heightened sensitivity that varies from person to person.

The Oh-Shot uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is derived from your own blood. PRP is rich in growth factors that are being studied for their role in tissue repair, circulation, and nerve support. When introduced into areas like the clitoral tissue and the anterior vaginal wall, the goal is to enhance the health of the tissue itself—supporting blood flow, sensitivity, and overall responsiveness.

The treatment is straightforward: a small blood draw, a process to concentrate the PRP, and targeted injections into specific areas. Numbing is used to keep the experience comfortable, and because it’s your own biological material, the risk of reaction is minimal.

What’s important to understand is that sexual function is layered. Desire, arousal, and orgasm are influenced by physical, emotional, and psychological factors. No single treatment replaces that complexity. But for some women, addressing the physical component—especially at the level of tissue and nerve function—can make a meaningful difference.

Sexual wellness is personal, evolving, and worth paying attention to. It deserves the same level of curiosity and care as any other aspect of your health. Whether you’re navigating changes or simply wanting to feel more connected to your body, exploring options like the Oh-Shot is ultimately about understanding what’s available—and deciding what feels right for you.
