Urinary incontinence (UI) is the term healthcare providers use to describe the involuntary loss of urine or loss of bladder control. It can be uncomfortable, distressing and embarrassing for someone to live with. While UI can affect both men and women, up to 10-30% of all women will experience incontinence at some point in their lives.
Urinary Incontinence impacts every area of a person's life; work, social, recreation and sexual wellness. Many women are quietly dealing with this thinking this is an expected symptom after childbirth and a normal part of aging, with little information on how to seek out assistance. You don't need to learn how to live with it, or have to constantly calculate the distance to the nearest restroom. These symptoms shouldn't be normalized and there are ways we can help you.
Here at Sin Worthy, I aspire to change the conversation and education around what options are available to help women and men alike with their symptoms and teach them how they can improve their overall quality of life.
While UI can occur to any woman or man, we most commonly see UI with childbirth-either during pregnancy or postpartum due to the stretching and pressure put on the pelvic floor and pelvic organs. Similarly, the type of birth you've had and the disruption to the pelvic floor muscles can also cause UI. We also see clients experiencing UI when going through menopause, as we age and become more experienced in life, we unfortunately do loose muscle mass which also impacts our pelvic floor muscles, this combined with hormonal changes can contribute to UI as a symptom of menopause. I know it can be a very personal thing to discuss with your provider, however it is so important to your overall well-being to get the conversation started! My journey into women's health has come from my personal experience postpartum and from hearing how many clients experience UI for far too long without getting help Here at Sin Worthy we offer a treatment specifically designed to tighten the vaginal tissues that can significantly improve your symptoms. I encourage you to book in for a consultation to learn more, but most importantly, to regain your confidence and get back to living life on your own terms.
Best,
Cat, NP
